Great question. Infrastructure engineers are software engineers (not SRE)
Infrastructure teams manage underlying components and systems that product teams use. Because they are further from the user, they don’t usually have as much product design, user research, or product management presence
In my experience, these teams are driven mostly by engineers
Thank you Sairam, I've been enjoying your writing too :)
It has been a great resource to get some general understanding of machine learning. The article on diffusion models was particularly great because I've been curious about them recently
Do you have any more “subject-killing” resources?
Off the top of my head, two come to mind:
1. "How To Win Friends and Influence People" -> soft skills
2. "Introduction to Algorithms" also known as CLRS -> algorithms and data structures
Thank you!
Insightful article for ICs like me. Very helpful to plan the career ahead and look out for opportunities within the team. Thanks Ryan
Are infrastructure engineers typically SREs or is that different? What do those responsibilities typically look like as an infra eng?

This was a very much needed article, thank you Ryan
Thanks for reading Mitchel!
Great read. Also very interesting to know there's a designer at the company considered one of the best.
Do you have a place where we can directly reach out to you?
Glad you enjoyed it!
